The Steep showing is located approximately 20 kilometres northeast of Blue Sheep Lake, 125 kilometres northeast of the community of Dease Lake.

The occurrence area covers an assemblage of northwest striking units of shale of the Upper Devonian to Lower Mississippian Earn Group and Silurian to Devonian carbonates (limestone) of the undivided Sandpile, Ramhorn and McDame groups. A rock grab sample (TR96-36) at the shale-carbonate contact yielded 0.74 per cent zinc and 463 parts per million lead (Assessment Report 24925).

The 1996 exploration program on behalf of Cusac Gold Mines Ltd., Demand Gold Ltd. and Pacific Bay Minerals Ltd. consisted of reconnaissance prospecting, geological mapping, rock chip, stream silt and soil sampling.
